About us

Our philosophy

Kubu Nirmala was born from the vision of the late I Made Sujana, a Balinese architect who believed traditional architecture is not merely form, but a living system of knowledge.

The compound was designed as a full implementation of Balinese architectural principles — not only Asta Kosala Kosali, but also Tri Mandala, Sanga Mandala, traditional sukat measurements, Tri Angga, Wariga, and the preservation of the Natah as the living center.

The layout follows the concepts of karang sikut satak and karang gajah. Spatial distances were measured using his own foot span, making each proportion deeply personal. Sacred structures are placed according to cosmological orientation. Construction stages followed auspicious timing. Every building embodies the balance of head, body, and feet.

Kubu Nirmala is not a decorative interpretation of Balinese style. It is a structural embodiment of its philosophy.

Today, it stands as a Pakem Bali Event Space — where heritage and contemporary celebration coexist in harmony. Because architecture, here, is meant to live.

Tri Hita Karana

Tri Hita Karana is the foundational philosophy of Balinese life, meaning “the three causes of harmony.” It teaches that true well-being arises from balance among three relationships:

Parahyangan

harmony between humans and the divine

Pawongan

harmony among people

Palemahan

harmony between humans and nature

Balinese architecture is inseparable from this philosophy.

At Kubu Nirmala, Tri Hita Karana is not symbolic — it is embedded in the spatial design and lived experience.

Authentic Balinese Spatial Philosophy

The Utama Mandala houses sacred structures aligned with mountain-oriented directions. Construction followed traditional Wariga timing, honoring the belief that buildings carry spiritual presence.

Pawongan – Human Connection

The bale pavilions, ballroom, and lawn are designed as gathering spaces where celebration and togetherness unfold naturally. Human-based measurements create comfortable proportions that encourage connection.

Palemahan – Environmental Balance

The central Natah allows light and airflow to circulate organically. The orientation follows cosmological axes, aligning the compound with natural surroundings and tropical climate conditions.

Through Tri Hita Karana, Kubu Nirmala becomes more than an event venue.

It becomes a space that honors balance — between people, nature, and spirit.
